Random awarenesses

I have come to some realizations this week.

1.  I am old!! I know this is shocking to just realize how old I am when I turned 36 (gasp) last year but I have always felt younger. I don't try to act like a 21 year old or anything but I do still appreciate a good time now and again.

I came to realize this because of a couple of things. I have watched the show Castle for a few years and I love it. Nathan Fillion is FABULOUS!! But did you know he is only 5 years older than me? I always thought he looked old but I thought he was at least 10-15 years older than me, nope!!

Then the straw that broke the camels back (like us old folks like to say), I discovered that Daniel Gillies (Elijah from Vampire Diaries) is MY AGE!!! I remember watching his episodes thinking how much older he looked than the other "originals." WTH?

maybe it was just the stupid haircut!!
How can this be? I guess it was inevitable that I figure it out sooner or later. I think I will go ahead and order my Hoveround!!

2.  Candy bar sizes need new names. I have determined that candy bar sizes need new names. I think a "king size" candy bar should now be called "fat size" and a regular size candy bar should be called "chubby size." Cause let's face it, you will be those descriptions if you eat it!!

My fav's!!

**Quick shout out to the hubs for getting me said fat or chubby bar when I need it, even in -10 degree weather...Thanks!!**

3.  New soccer coach means momma's gotta get off her fat booty and run. Xander has a new soccer coach this season. I have discovered that he is a young player from a local university. He has also played for an MLS team's youth league. This means Xander is going to have to pick up the pace with the running, which means I will have to go out with him. Maybe this will help me with motivation because I refuse to give up my chubby bars :)

4.  I can't give up school lunch no matter how hard I try. I had my gallbladder out in 2011, since that time my stomach is very sensitive. I usually take my lunch and it consists of carrots with french dressing and some Jello (don't worry, we keep some Hershey's kisses in our room for after lunch cravings). My stomach does really well with this lunch. The problem is when I am in the cafeteria and I see the chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, garlic bread, chili, etc. I can't help myself. Something warm, this time of year, always sounds better than a cold lunch. I told myself that when we came back from Christmas break that I was not going to get school lunch anymore, not matter how the peas called my name. It didn't last very long :(

5.  Cold weather makes me lazy. At the beginning of this week, Indiana was warmer and I had the energy to get up and do a bunch of stuff around the house. Then yesterday the temperature dropped 20 degrees within a few hours (welcome to Indiana weather). When the temp dropped so did my desire to do anything. I just want to sit under a blanket and play on the laptop. Hopefully spring will get her soon.

6. The awesomeness of early 2 hour school delays. This is the second time this year that we have gotten our 2 hour school delay phone call the night before. This is the best. thing. EVER. They have never done this before. I can now set my alarm clock 2 hours later (7:45) and I don't have to worry about answering the phone at 5 a.m. or calling my mom to let he know of the delay!!

Some awesome randomness to end with today. The roads were really slick today in Indiana. There were lots of accidents and slide offs :(  This is the pic that I saw of some of the craziness:

Yep, those are ELEPHANTS!!!
Fox59 ran the story that these elephants were in the semi that slid off the road. I guess the police got the elephants out safely, got the semi back on the road, and then put the elephants back in the semi so it could go about its business. Could you imagine driving down the interstate and seeing elephants in the middle of the road? I said so to the hubs and said that it's not like we live in India or something. We then had to brain storm to make sure there were elephants in India and I am not just making things up. All we could think of was African and Asian elephants. I just checked on Google (because the internet doesn't lie) and it says there are elephants in India, haha!!

*Book Review Wednesday*

It's time for book review Wednesday again.

I love reading it is a great way to pass the time and live in another life. This week I had to go to the library to get a book that I couldn't find on the libraries digital site and I didn't want to spend the $$ to buy it. I was sitting at work today and trying to read it but I kept getting distracted by co-workers. I noticed that while talking to them that I would occasionally tap the page I was on. This is one of those knee-jerk things that I always do....on my Nook...so the screen doesn't turn off. I guess I'm just used to my Nook. Not surprised, though, because I have owned it for over a year and this is only the 2nd book I have had to check out at the library since then.

Now to my review:

I found this book on sale for my Nook. It is written by a fellow blogger: The Bloggess.

I have recently started reading her blog and it is freakin' HILARIOUS!!

The book is:

The title of the book even tells you that it is "a mostly true memoir." I don't care how much is true and how much is not, I laughed all the way through the book. I tried to figure out what could be true/not true while reading and it is all so outlandish that it is hard to tell but it doesn't matter. The author does such an awesome job of pulling you in that you don't care. I loved her writing style, even though it seemed like it rambled. I ramble on and on so I have no problem with it.

She tells about her childhood, meeting her spouse, her careers (OMG, to sit in on those HR meetings would be too much), the trials of having children, and growing up in general. I was able to relate to the author in so many things and then wonder how she survives the others. It is a rolller coaster of hilarity that I did not want to be over.

I read on Barnes and Noble that they may have added another chapter but I wish she would write another book. I would be first in line to get a copy (for my Nook)!!

I highly recommend this book to others as long as they are not easily offended. She uses some bad language (get over it people its a book, you can skip the bad words) and discusses some touchy subjects (if it offends, just skip it). If you can get past these (which I hope you can, you are an adult) then get the book.

If you want a fun book to make you laugh, READ IT!!

It gets 4 stars for awesomeness!!

So. Freakin'. Cold.

It is so freakin cold right now in Indiana. Our school system even had a 2 hour delay one day this week just because of the cold. Wind chills were well below zero. I hate cold.

Poor little Evie has had some growing pains this week in her legs and had to spend one evening on the couch with the heating pad :( Poor baby, I hated the growing pains. I remember crying while my mom rubbed my shins.

Now let me give you a little background on the school system I work for. It is also the same school system I attended K-12. There are 3 teachers in my elementary school that taught when I went to an elementary school in our district. I went to school with 2 teachers in my building. I went to school with the children of the school secretary and another teachers aide. Finally, many of the aides live within a few blocks of my house. Needless to say we are a very small town school. We service grades 2-5 and have 700 children from 2 towns in it. So, I found it shocking that after Christmas break we were required to wear a name badge, I mean I know everyone I work with and I know the people that shouldn't be there. The 1st problem about name badges is that it has your picture on it (see my post on how I hate my pic being taken) and the 2nd problem with name badges is they tear up your clothing. Last week, I wore a brand new sweater to work and it was pilled all over the front where the badge would hit. I was mad but considering the sweater was from Old Navy, it wasn't too surprising. Then, this week I wore another brand new shirt (this time of better quality). This one was made of a very thin material, It also ended up with pilling and then got 2 snags. Guess I won't be wearing that shirt to work anymore. Someone else decided to clip it to the bottom of their shirt and while she was doing something it tore up the bottom of her shirt. Any suggestions as to how I can make this experience any better?

Finally, I read some blog tips for new bloggers from Erin at Living in Yellow. One of the tips she had was to keep a journal with you at all times to write things down when they happen. Once I read this I realized that this is totally going to help me. I was always thinking of things at bedtime or at work and couldn't remember them when it came time to blog. I bought my 7"x5" journal at Walmart. It was with the regular notebooks and it was less than $2. It has an elastic to keep it closed and a folder on the inside to keep things safe.

Today's blog was all things that I wrote down in my journal.

Crazy Daisy facts

I am doing a link up today with Whitney at I Wore Yoga Pants to Work. I read hers and thought it sounded fun so here you go....

I can't get the link to work :( I am so confused!!

Some crazy daisy facts about me:

I love chocolate. I'm pretty sure I could eat it for EVERY meal. I love chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing with a chocolate drizzle and chocolate in the middle.

I read all the time. I am constantly looking for a new book to read. I currently have 3 books on my Nook that are in line to read next.

I talk to my dog like he is another kid.

I quit a good paying job in my college degree field to work at my kids elementary school. I make less money but I am MUCH happier. I found that I love working with kids and having the summers off isn't too bad either :)

I am VERY quiet but I am usually judging a situation on the inside. Sorry :(

My favorite colors are pink, purple, and black.

I truly believe that cancer is a nasty bitch!!

Huge party situations make me nervous because I am so quiet.

I carry my Nook Tablet EVERYWHERE I go.

I like learning new things but I hate teaching others how to do something, I would rather do it myself. I used to be the resident computer trainer at my last job, it made for an interesting time. (this excludes teaching children)

I have diagnosed myself as lactose intolerant.

I could fall asleep anywhere, in the car, on the couch, at the table, by the pool. I once fell asleep at a concert. In my defense, I was sick and only about 12 years old. The concert was Nelson and Cinderella!!

I am a Walt Disney World super fan!! My first trip was in 1981 and I have loved it since that day.

I got to live my dream of going to DisneyLand in 2007 when on a girls trip to Los Angeles.

Blogging helps me relax, especially reading other peoples blogs. Its always nice to know others have bad days, too.

I HATE having my picture taken. There are rarely pics of me, I am usually taking them. This is partially because I am so self-critical (my hair doesn't look right, one eye lid is droopy, etc.) and partially because my mother constantly took my picture as a child.

I hate cold weather and snow. I am pretty much grouchy December-March. I would love to live in Florida. The hubs and I joke that he plans on moving to Michigan when we retire but I plan on moving to Florida.

I have 9 tattoos: 4 tiny hearts on the back of my neck, hearts and stars behind one ear, an anchor and "honor" on my left wrist (for my dad), "Love" in an infinity symbol on my right wrist (the "o" is a keyhole and the hubs has a tat of the key), butterfly flower and vines on my lower back (done separately), orchid and tribal on one ankle, butterfly on top of one foot, and a Mickey ears hat on one toe.

I could never work at my favorite place (WDW) because of the above tattoos :(

I hate it when my hands get dirty. I'm not an OCD hand washer, I just don't like them to be dirty.

I am usually grouchy at night. Don't wake me up once I go to sleep or you will probably regret it. The hubs is opposite.

Letters from Mendy

Dear Friday,

I missed you.

Dear Lance Armstrong,

I still like you. How many NFL, NBA, MLB athletes are guilty of the same thing along with other drugs, arrests, etc. yet the country still loves them? Why are they still allowed to keep their championship rings?

Dear Xander and Eve,

Stop growing up so fast!!

Love <3 <3 <3,
Mommy :)

Dear Me,
Stop spending time wishing for the weekend. You are basically wishing your babies childhoods to go by too quickly!

Love <3,
Me

Dear parents,
Working in an elementary school I see many wonderful children without the lives that they deserve. So, love your kids. Take care of your kids. Protect them. Teach them to be independent. Raise them to want to do the right thing. Teach them basic life skills, example: counting money. READ TO YOUR KIDS!!!

Love <3,
Your kid's teacher

Dear economy,
Please get better before I pull my hair out.

Dear Indiana,
Stop being so darn cold!

Dear Hubby,

Thank you for understanding that I can't function while in the middle of a book and that I MUST finish it, I MUST get to the end.

Love Always <3,

Dear Amy Pond/Karen Gillan,
I am not one of those crazy, whacko, super fans of the show or anything but you can't just leave The Doctor. I'm pretty sure you are "too big for your britches" and that your acting career won't be fantabulous.  I call this the Luke Perry syndrome (he left Beverly Hills 90210 because he thought he was an awesome actor, he ended up making a few craptastic movies and then ended up back on the show).

Dear Blog readers,

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.

*Book Review Wednesday*

WOW! It has been awhile for a book review Wednesday.

I guess I have been super busy.

The book I am reviewing today was offered on Barnes and Noble's website a few weeks ago as their free book Friday promotion. I usually completely forget about this promotion but for some reason that day I remembered.

The book is:

I really enjoyed this book. It was good for what it was intended, entertainment. I found all of the characters charming and well written. The book was also well written. I could actually picture myself in it and I think this is one of the things that makes a book good.

*SPOILERS*
The premise of this book is that the main character is obsessed with romantic comedy films. She truly believes that you can live the fairy tale life played out in rom com films. Unfortunately, her current life is not living up to her expectations. She decides to take an adventure and see where life takes her. There is a romance for her and it's hard to figure out what decisions she is going to make.

I give this book a solid 4 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked the characters, the settings, and even the mentioning of the films that she likes. It is a good book for a good laugh at a fictional story.

Craptastical day :(

I should have known that my day was going to be craptastical when I slept 15 minutes too long :(

After that, I was putting eyebrow liner on and realized that it was my black eyeliner, not my brown eyebrow liner :(

The day just kept getting better and better.

It is slowly coming to an end now and I can feel the tension from the day in my shoulders :(

Maybe Wednesday will be better.

Until then, here is a little "Keep Calm" gem I found online to help ease through the crap (and help me add a smiley after something):

Only 2 more days until the next episode :)
